Occupants in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly’s Takoradi Council quarters of which many are junior staff of the Assembly have been asked to vacate their premises before 31st of August 2020 to make way for the relocation of traders at the Takoradi market circle.
The Takoradi council quarters which sits on a six acres of land around Ahenfie hotel is one of the four (4) sites identified by city authorities to provide temporary market for traders to be affected by the €48million Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment project which President Akuffo-Addo cut sod for it commencement two days ago.
Attempts by the assembly junior staffs to get the Member of Parliamentary for Takoradi who doubles as the Western Regional Minister Kobina Okyere Darko-Mensah to intercede for a three months extension of stay and at least three years rent advances as compensation all did not materialize.
Meanwhile STMA has paid about five million, eight hundred and thirty two thousand Ghana cedis (5,832,000) to seventy-one occupants at the Takoradi council quarters as compensation catering for two years rent advance.
It is expected that by the end of October 2020 traders will begin relocating to the Takoradi Council quarters area as well as a space behind ECG structure opposites Dadzie’s bakery, and open space at main spain – Amanful (close to the public toilet) to make way for the market redevelopment project.
