MTN Ghana has disclosed that the major cause of network instability in the Wassa Akropong enclave was because of the activities of ‘galamsay’ operator who usually cuts fibre in their quest for gold.
The Territory Sale Controller for Western North, Mr. Andy Coffie made this revelation in an engagement with the Paramount Chief of Wassa Akropong Traditional Council Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II and his elders on Thursday, May 20, 2021.
In his presentation Mr. Andy Coffie mentioned that MTN Network Group has optimized their network to enhance customer experience in the area but pleaded with the chiefs to help educate both legal and illegal miners in the area to help safeguard the infrastructure.
He advised customers to be on the lookout for fraudsters who call their victims, posing as MTN officials to assist with Customer’s pin reset or sometimes ask them to reverse a wrong transfer made for them or another thing just to get into customers MoMo wallet and defraud him or her.
Addressing the Chiefs on behalf of the Regional Senior Manager, Mr. Kennedy Ofosuhene who is the Corporate Service Advisor for Southern Ghana said MTN will continue to support government and communities in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic and that MTN has donated S$25 million to support the African Union’s (AU’s) COVID-19 vaccination programme.
MTN Ghana Foundation, he said has three thematic pillars such as health, education and economic empowerment. So if any community seeks for community support, it should be tailored to meet the pillar for the Foundation Management Board to consider.
Mr. Ofosuhene however thanked the Chiefs and all stakeholders for their immense support to the MTN brand and announced that MTN will soon launch it 25th Anniversary which his outfit has set aside USD25million for legacy projects in the country.
Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, Paramount Chief of the Wassa Akropong Traditional Council expressed his sincere gratitude to the management and staff of MTN Ghana for enlightening them on so many issues they are confronted with on daily bases with respect to telecommunication services in their area and encourage them to extend network throughout his entire kingdom. Since he believed that will accelerate development that he desires for his people.
